Last summer was our first "Staycation". High gas prices put the last nail in any hopes of a trip. This summer, the economy and a tightening budget have resulted in a sequel, creatively titled "Staycation II." I don't even have a catchy subtitle such as "The return of the squirt guns and water balloons."
Even though we are sticking close to home, we haven't been idle. This summer has been a whirlwind of activities.
The kids are involved in the library's summer reading program, tangleboxing, tennis camps, space camp, zoo camp, art classes and just plain goofing off.
I became the proud owner of a new iphone in June and have started geocaching, another addictive hobby to join my letterboxing obsession. The kids enjoy geocaching more because of the trinkets and toys involved.
Today we took the entire family on a tangleboxing/geocaching expedition to a nearby town. We spent an enjoyable morning hiking around two parks, finding 3 geocaches, exploring a pioneer cemetery, cooling off with treats from DQ, and visiting a glacial erratic rock.
It's funny, but we had more fun today, just being a family, just poking around outside, than on a high priced sometimes stressful trip.
And for your viewing pleasure, some photos taken with my iphone of today's journeys.

And I have been spinning, here is Jacob from a fleece I've washed, picked and carded.
And some alpaca that I had thrown into my dyepots to exhaust the baths. I then randomly picked up locks and spun them.
